Method Manuals

Hello All!

This is the parent page for what I’m calling the Method Manuals. These manuals are meant to aid you as you write your second paper.  If you forgot what “causal analysis” in the Strong Programme looks like in action, or if you want to review the seven layers of social construction theory, then these pages will be your go-to source.

Please keep in mind that your analysis does not have to mirror these analyses exactly.  Far from it.  STS scholars, although they agree on many of the basic building blocks of the field, create lots of different pathways into their research.  So, I’m not looking for you to parrot the definitions of Joan Wallach Scott or the tone of John Law. I just want you to have something at your fingertips to jog your memory and incite your imagination.

Attached to this page (look for pop-out tabs as you hover over Method Manual on the home page) you will find the following:

1) Materials for the Strong Programme–a compilation of the major tenets group activity we did in class; based on the supplementary reading from The Leviathan and the Air Pump

2) Materials for Social Construction Theory–the completed “seek and find” chart that we started together in class; based on the supplementary reading from Laboratory Life

3) Materials for Feminist Theory

4) Materials for Actor-Network Theory
